Simplemente no sabes cómo usarla.

Today I would like to share a poem which I've translated from an illustrated book sponsored by the Morelos Intitute of Culture from my hometown, that among other things talks about the magicians and shapeshifters of the Mesoamerican cultures The Nahual

Any man who wants to transform into a beast will have to maintain intact the spirit, the eyes, the shadow.

The obscure capacity to enter into another world that permutates the corporeal, has to be initiated as we end: in ashes.

The human that desires to become a nahual must have petty desires an be anxious to traverse the paths of the magical.

The nahual, when he is human, can be recognized for his quiet temper, his ebony and glittering eyes, his enjoyment to be confined and his erudition in rites, beings and remedies that heal beyond the body.

His territories comprehend all of our lands and all of our darkest nights.

I posted on last JMG's Covid Semi-open post if there would be interest in creating a website where we could take the discussions on the open posts and take them one step further by showcasing the research that has not gotten enough press time and resilience techniques that people that don't want to take the frankenserum can take. I received a couple of replies from programmers, which is more than enough to put it up. One thing that I haven't figured out and would like to discuss here is just what type of content we could publish. So if there is something you would like to see have more display regarding the current situation and in general the un-voiced corners of today's society. What are they?

We can go ahead and start calibrating the card-o-scope and check what the Astral Light is up to today, this week or the coming months. So if you have a question, bring it on.

I've been studying and practicing the Tarot for about 2 years now and having cast a few spreads for friends who found it helpful I thought I might make a deal with anyone that happens to read this.

Here is the deal, I will repost this on the last Tuesday of every month and will try to answer your query before the end of the month. Post a comment below requesting for a reading within the week of posting, depending on the number of comments and the situation I can either offer a lengthy reading or a three card reading. What I request back from you is some feedback about your situation and in case of some outcome what I got right and what I got wrong.

So, if you have a situation where you want to know what the Astral Light is up to, be it personal, general or on a broader scale like political events, or want to know what the week or month ahead has in store for you, why then, you know what to do. I would encourage you to post it publicly below, as for others to get an idea of what I have to offer, to encourage discussion and show what divination is about in general but if your situation is delicate post a comment marked NOT FOR POSTING explaining your situation and I'll consider it on a case by case basis.

That said, divination is like weather forecasting not a tablet of truth handed down from above, so take the advice I give you through the cards as such. The conditions that divination taps into are also in constant flux, the same as atmospheric pressure and the Moon. Any unfortunate situation you get yourself into is entirely the responsibility of the querent!

I would like to share the lyrics to a song which I enjoy very much and that took me out of some dark places when I needed it most, along with some thoughts.
"I am going to talk to you this evening on the subject, of the spectrum of love:
We know, that from time to time
There arise among human beings
People who seem to exude love
As naturally, as the sun gives out heat.

We would like to be like that
And by and large
Man’s religions, are attempts to cultivate
That same power
In ordinary people
--Alan Watts"

When you just can't hold the highs
Like Sunday skies
And broken rhymes
Run out of love
Lost our way
To passing clouds
And rolling waves

Pray don't fall down

When all the hope fades around
Raise your soul
From dusty ground
Stuck in reverse
The record won't play
The ending fades
On broken days

Pray don't fall down
Pray don't fall down
Pray don't fall down

I've had a blessed material life so far, but something that I haven't had since about my teenage years, even though I've always been smart, is a smooth emotional and mental life. Troubled, people call it, and its true, but it far from describes what it is to be a prisoner to the very thing that is meant to liberate you, for it is like trying to clean yourself with a dirty rag, or see through the way with a pair of lenses that filter out light and enhance shadow.

I have a good paying job, a loving family and truly good friends; I have artistic and musical talents; I have many things worth of envy and yet, in those harrowing years, I really had nothing.

It was not until I listened, given several cosmic bangs in the head, that there must be something else to life than being good at and having things. Through some chance events and through other slow and painful moments I understood that there is something much bigger than what we humans like to accept, that surrounds us at every moment and is always available. We might call it, in its various forms, ecstasy and bliss, we might call it liberation; or Grace, peace and tranquility among others.

In these times, when there are dark, bulgy clouds above our heads and tensions are building up foreshadowing a major crisis --not the theatrical kind like our current pandemic-- I consider important to point out that its possible to enter into a state of communion with the beings (or potent currents of power, as your prefer) we refer to as Gods, be it the Christian God, the Hellenic Gods, the Druid Gods or the several other pantheons, so as to elevate our consciousness out from the gutter that the human commons are today.

I don't mean this in a merely poetical sense, but about the actual effects of prayer over human consciousness. People that have prayed for a while and are familiar with it can tell, that when we can truly open up to these vast currents of power --and love-- nothing, truly nothing can really touch you, even if just for a little while. I consider this to be not only good today, but necessary as we go through, and prepare for, a major shake on the human world.

Here I would like to state that prayer is not exclusively, though these things are definitely an important part of, about asking for things nor about flattering anyone (it's truly self-centered to think that the Gods need our praise) but also about you becoming a little bit like the object of your devotions. If we can manage this, ourselves and the people around us, will have an easier time through the shake by substituting irate confrontation with wise limits and conversations and by replacing vengeance with kindness as well as becoming available to a larger flow of things than the ones that are happening here on Earth right now in the physical and emotional spheres.

So today, Dear Reader, as JMG likes to say, I invite you to open yourself up to something bigger than yourself with your arms and hearts open, to speak what you cannot makes sense of and have a lighter weight, and to listen, for the Gods are mighty and can be a place of rest, love and power.

Lastly, given that many have left us I would like to pray for you and all; for Sabina, as to the safe passage of her soul and the cleansing of her demons; for my aunt Yaya who passed away after raising a wonderful family; for Maria, whose loving innocence was greater than rationality; for the loving pets that made our hearts melt that have left us for the next life, Kimberly's Kiki and my father's Mapachín; for John Gilbert, who even after physical dead manages to touch many people; for OneThing, whose brief interaction with me made me rethink my thoughts and motivated me to pursue my ways and for the many people that need a warm ambiance around them.

Note: Here of course, common sense is as valuable as anywhere else. The Gods do not abide to our notions of ethics so when praying to a God be sure it's a god that is known for behaving benevolently. For example praying to a trickster God is perhaps not the best of ideas if what you need is stability.

Here we go with another iteration of Tarot Tuesday (Thursday?) so we can go ahead and start calibrating the card-o-scope and check what the Astral Light is up to today, this week or the coming months. So if you have a question, bring it on.

Before we start I want to give the disclaimer that given some current personal issues replies will be delayed, possibly quite a bit but I will get back to you as soon as possible! Giving a proper lecture takes quite a bit of time, specially at a distance. However, once I finish dealing with paperwork I should be able to answer your questions promptly. Thank you for visiting and for your consideration!

Most of the time, when I set myself up to write about something I do it meticulously and some times obsessively and many, many times just not doing it. Not that I manage to organize myself into pursuing a goal in an orderly manner either. I get something pop in my mind and I sit down for hours until it has flushed out of my system. That can be a really good thing to have if you know how to use it, which I don't yet.

This is something I do with a lot of things in my life and many times it has led to what is known in some circles as "analysis, paralysis". That is, thinking about something so much that you render yourself unavailable to do anything at all. There are various reasons why someone would do that but most of them boil down to a very common human emotion. Fear.

This quality of mine, which I do like by the way, as it has set me into wonderful spirals of creativity, is one way I avoid facing things that I have to face and I think it is too common that people start turning their qualities against themselves when they are using them as a distraction to something else. That is why today I am writing extempore, with a very rough sketch of the topic that I have in mind, and very minor editing, so be warned that the structure of this post might be a little less than cohesive and the points touched only superficially explored. But hey, Dreamwidth is a journal right? So let me talk about this particular place that I have in mind.

Every now and then, as the tide of my consciousness rises and falls --perhaps somewhere in between-- I find myself in this place. Just recently it was an imaginal shore amidst rising rugose tentacles, often it is at my desk, but today it was at the imaginal divining room where I offer free Tarot readings as I was typing some long due interpretations on my not so regularly scheduled Tarot Tuesday . I don't know how to trigger this state of mind consciously but in this case it was triggered in part by a chat with a dear friend of mine that came over while I am here in Mexico, in part to a very intricate reading interpretation I just finished writing and in part to the announcement that John Michael Greer is going to be using The Doctrine and Ritual of High Magic by Eliphas Levi for his book club that just finished reading Dion Fortune's The Cosmic Doctrine .

This last point is huge to me, not only because apparently Levi's magnum opus is the most important work of occult philosophy of the 19th century --one that single-handedly kickstarted the modern occult revival-- but because that book, through a stream of synchronicities and odd events found me on various occasions. In the end it brought me here, to a fringe social network where I eagerly wait for every Monday to ask about what I think is very profound and serious business, though must of the time its me making a fuzz about an ordinary human experience using occult philosophy as a means to understanding it.

At that time, as I was starring wide-eyed at the monitor screen with a digital copy of Levi's book open I didn't know about JMG (he hadn't done his translation at the time), nor did I know that occultism was a thing that was still very much alive. To me (gosh I wish I remembered what was I looking for) it was just a regular evening lurking on the internet when I found (Ah, I remembered! Sort of, I think I was looking at things about Carl Jung and something that I was turning around in my head about "social fields" while I was trying to find something that would explain that odd phenomenon Jung calls synchronicities, since I was fascinated by the concept and just how common the experience seems to be) myself clicking on wikipedia links until I landed on Levi's page and figuring out that I was wrong. So very wrong.

My jaw had typed a full page of spaces when I finished reading the introduction to his most famous work. I couldn't comprehend at all what I was reading but I knew there was something which I didn't understand that lied behind the traps, smoke, mirrors, twists and turns that characterize Levi's colorful prose. Nine years later, more or less, I understand squat about the damn thing, hence my enthusiasm about the announcement.

Getting back to the place. It is not so much of a place at all, obviously, but a mind space. It feels more like a space than a state, though definitely the state of mind is different than usual. This place is a weird one too. It is usually accompanied by a stream of synchronicities that lead me like breadcrumbs to this headspace, or foreshadowed by this or that, and I get to sit there for about an hour or two reflecting upon myself with a clarity that doesn't seem earned. It is a sort of intoxicating, inspired state but its particular quality is that things about myself and what I ought to do are crystal clear; as well as many things about my surroundings and how it fits with me.

I am sure most of us have experienced a similar state on various occasions, but at least to me in "ordinary life" in slightly muted fashion. For example in my case it is when I am madly in love with someone; or when I am a top a mountain, feeling the breeze of the Andes with my open arms (still in love); or when you are madly heartbroken starring at what once could've been.

What I like about this place is that it gets really clear to me how small in the cosmic scheme of things I am and yet how important it is for me to be here in order for other pieces in the machinery to move. I get to think very bright and clear streams of thought that are relevant to me in that particular moment and time in my life as well as other people's that are close to me. I also have my creativity explode in ways that are embarrassing once I am out of that place. But most of all, I feel awe. I feel awe as if I was standing in the middle of a milliard different things spinning and whirling around me in the most elaborate of patterns but yet inside of me, there is only stillness and I get to bask in it --when I am not furiously scribbling what I can salvage.

This latter task is almost always futile with very few exceptions, just like trying to record a concert instead of enjoying it live --you lose the experience and have a crappy video instead. And that is why I feel silly and my ideas nonsense when I notice the gates of the place closing upon me. The projection of the thing will never be the thing and if it is something really good any attempt at describing it will sound utterly foolish. Being who I am this borders me quite a bit because I have understood the world so far by describing it and thus attempting to know it better. This dimension however cannot be described, it can only be listened.

And this takes me to what is the most important point of me writing this. Listening, though usually (ironically) described as passive, and though it is, is a very powerful and dynamic state of being where one gets to experience the rest of the world through oneself. I say this because as human beings we never get to experience anything else that is not ourselves. Why? Everything that you've ever experienced has happened as a response to the sensory stimuli that gets assembled by your brain. Absolutely everything. Even when you are actively listening to someone you are doing everything but that; you are assembling the sounds that come out of your speaker's mouth and making it coherent (most of the times, hopefully) in your mind with the various neurological tricks and social conditionings that we have evolved through the ages and gathered through our current lives.

So why then is this so important if it only seems to be an argument for solipsism? It is extremely important, because listening is part of the quality of devotion and nothing worthy of being known can be known without it. Devotion in this sense is much less a mindless worshiping and more so being open to the magic that happens everyday in front of our eyes and within our beating hearts. It is through devotion that many doors can be opened, doors inaccesible to the stubborn, chattering intelectual. One thing to make emphasis on is that devotion is just a matter of perspective. Look up sometime a rendering of the Virgo Supercluster of which our galaxy is part of, or the Hubble Ultra Deep Field just to get a sense at the immensity of the cosmos and see how you feel.

So, it is when we are overwhelmed by something that we become devout, whether it be the immense presence of a God or Goddess in your prayers or be it the magnificent design of an ant; be it the intensity of inspiration of a muse or even a particular kind of scorching anger. This I think is the key to the place, it is hard to grasp but it is always within reach, however it is so slippery that if you try to, you'll miss it. The trick, so it seems, lies not so much in knowing how to trigger it but in learning how to tap into it by putting everything else aside and just sit, attentive and available, to the rest of the Cosmos.

It's been exactly two weeks today since I started the first on a series of experiments regarding that elusive and mysterious force physicists used to pay attention to in the 19th century, before science was taken over by the materialist skeptics. They used to call it ether and older cultures call it Prana, Chi, etc.

First I want to address some suggestions and further thoughts that came up in the comments and during later ramblings while doing nothing. What I am starting to find about this experiment is that it will yield more questions than answers and one of the reasons for that is because water is an incredibly complex medium and we can see some of those properties chemically.

So lets talk a little bit about the chemistry of water before we proceed. One of the remarkable properties of water compared to other hydrides (some hydrogen compounds) is that it has a very high boiling point despite its small molecular weight. Here is a graph that compares it to other hydrides:

The reason for this can be measured in what is referred to as specific heat , which measures how much energy needs to be absorbed by the compound to increase in temperature. Water has a high specific heat and that is why it takes a long while for it to boil or to freeze even though the pot you heat it in changes very rapidly in temperature. This property of water enables for life to happen on Earth in a wide range of temperatures going from 0ºC to 100ºC at a standard pressure. The reason for this characteristic of water is that water molecules bind together through a strong type of bond called hydrogen bonds which take a lot of energy to be disrupted and thus making it harder for the molecules to jiggle faster through the input of energy in the form of heat, which is what heat does to molecules. Here is an image that illustrated hydrogen bonds in water:

All this is to say that water is complex and recalling all this properties of water I thought about what precautions I should take while preparing the water for this experiment. One of this issues was raised by [personal profile] wbj and that is that because of the impurities of tap water microwaving could create unique radiolytic products (URP's) that also effect the experiment. I haven't looked at what URPs are specifically nor to what amounts are they created when microwaving food so I didn't add that variable to my experiment but it is definitely worth experimenting and that could be easily done by using distilled water.

Now lets talk about the etheric properties of water. As occultist have known for a long while, the ether is affected by thoughts and emotions as well as the surrounding etheric fields. Also water's capacity to hold unto an etheric charge varies with temperature --the colder the water the more its capacity to hold it and that is why a cold shower makes you feel vitalized. An important point regarding waters etheric properties was raised by [personal profile] scotlyn and that is that my emotional state could add another variable to the experiment so she suggested that I do a double blind process by having one person prepare the water and have another person pour the water, which would be encoded but not described as to not affect the results. I think that is sensible to do and probably will do in the next iteration of this experiment. There have been apparently a lot of mad scientist that have explored the forbidden properties of water, so this is a rabbit hole I am not yet prepared to jump into and perhaps will do until I have developed my clairvoyant abilities enough to use them or have devices a radionic contraption to help the process.

Now, to the long awaited results.

Plant 1:
Water: Microwaved
Health: Not so green but still alive
Flowers: None

Plant 2:
Water: Consecrated
Health: Not so green but still alive
Flowers: None

Plant 3:
Water: Boiled in a pan
Health: Green and alive
Flowers: Yes

Plant 4:
Water: Regular
Health: Green and alive
Flowers: Yes

Notice something odd? I notice it too. Both plants which etheric patterns have been altered through the water they received (allegedly for the microwave) are withering as you can see on the close ups of the leaves and neither of them has flower not flower buds. I find this interesting, definitely not conclusive, but interesting. One thing that I am reminded of by the unexpected withering of the plant watered with consecrated water is that some plants do mesh well with our etheric patterns, mostly pine trees, but others don't and that is perhaps one of the reasons why those plants are dying. Perhaps small plants don't like their ether altered. Hmm. Further experimentation is needed. What do you think?

Before we commence delineating the first on a series of experiments in mad science a little preamble about what ether is I consider is necessary.

One thing that I have become immune to is the notion that all that exists in the Cosmos is cold dead matter and firing neurons that just happens to do this curious thing called being alive and conscious. Most societies that where not systematically stupefied at a planetary scale knew that there is much more than what meets the eye in the magnificent clockwork we all inhabit and can see with our bare eyes. What holds all this together could very well be called the Life-Force, in the full meaning of that compound word.

That is, you and me, your garden plants, the radiating sun that keeps everything alive and in place has a subtler body that is filled with a type of energy that pervades the whole universe. Some cultures that are old enough to not have forgotten about it call it by different names, we all know how it goes, —ki, chi, prana, ruach etc. are just some examples; some epic fantasy calls it Voor in the case of tentacled novels and The Force in the case of outer space samurais, as well as orgone in the lab of ill-fated groundbreaking physicians.

These cultures developed very clever ways to work with the Life-Force in order to progress spiritually; maintain health and cure various diseases; bless the land and make it specially apt for things like agriculture as the megalithic structures did; give an extraordinary kick and predict your opponents moves before he made them as some asian martial arts do; be sitting in the middle of a snowstorm and still have vapor coming out of you as Tibetan Yogis often display; consecrate powerful devices and entire cities for self transformation like lingas of the yogis and the city of Kashi; influence other peoples minds for good or for ill; create imaginary temples that are more real than stone and wood; read funny looking cards in order to see what the universe is up to and many, many other examples. The life-force is what binds everything together too and what enables us to do astonishing things we are not capable to do otherwise if we know how to sense it, direct it and how to use it .

Before anyone jumps out and says that I am just riffing off what somebody else is saying from those times where people where superstitious enough to believe in those things I should mention that I work with the Life-Force everyday in the form a simple yet powerful technique that generates vast amounts of this energy to energize and heal myself as well as using ceremonial magic to use the force of the powers behind the elements to keep my etheric and astral bodies clean in the form of a banishing ritual. Yes, I can feel those forces moving around me in specific patterns and yes, I have put them to use. For example in one case I used it for reducing the inflammation and crippling pain from my right ear from being tight-shut swollen to be completely open so that a doctor could pour anti-biotic drops inside. I was astonished that it worked so wonderfully, it only took 30 minutes of deep breathing holding a specific mudra for that. When I went back for my check-up and commented it do the doctor I just got a light-years stare and a dismissive comment followed by an overpriced bill.

One other and rather much more dramatic example is a process I went through were I was enveloped in a very thick etheric shroud that took over me so that I could experience a magnificent thing —the relationship of our breath rate with the rotation of the Earth. This shroud took over me and my beating heart —a mean this quite literally, as in my heart rate changed— and for a few seconds my heartbeat and that of the Earth, so to speak, were in perfect sync. Yes, I was astonished too.

This this stuff is real. That is one of the reasons why I am writing this post, our society is convinced such things can’t happen even when confronted with compelling or at least intriguing evidence in front of them and when anybody suggests otherwise they are condemned and ridiculed. That is okay, such things have always happened with breakthroughs. The establishment resists and Science moves on despite of that. Of course science (without capital S!) today is much more corrupted than it has always been, I would even dare to say it doesn’t even deserve to hold that name because Science is about discovering new things and questioning your suppositions not about rehashing old notions by creating more and more techno-crap and catering to the needs of the industry. Alexandre Grothendieck, the famous french madcap mathematician that revolutionized Algebraic Geometry, saw this coming (as well as the impeding fall of civilization as we know it) and quit mathematics for good with a fiery letter in order to pursue mysticism and the dream world, but more on this on a later post about Mathematics and Occultism.

One of my long-term goals as an occultist is to further develop what many brilliant men and woman through the ages have discovered and developed so that we can start working with it again openly, as the useless and invasive end of our industrial technology starts to fail. The East still preserves several methods to do this and here in the West we have started to do some really interesting things with it in the past centuries, as JMG has started to delineate in his series of posts about radionics. So, as the Long Descent starts accelerating and more people become open to alternative methods I believe this technology can start flourishing again, if we do the preliminary work before it becomes out of reach. And this, though somewhat silly experiment, is my first step venturing in such Etheric Technologies.

With all that said, lets look at a basic experiment by using a home microwave. I was astonished the other day when I saw that a little girl from Sussex did a very basic experiment were she would microwave water and use it once it cooled down to water a plant while watering another one with regular water which was boiled. Her results were dramatic, the other plant died. I saw some other replications on the internet with various results so I decided to give it a go myself. My hypotheses is that microwave technology for heating food, you know the thing that maintains you alive, is really stupid. More seriously however, I think that putting something alive inside a faraday cage and zapping it with high power energy disrupts the subtle etheric patterns that surrounds everything alive and only leaves the connective tissue behind. Isn’t that exactly what the materialist want? A world with only matter and their gizmos? No surprise they came up with this stuff. (It is useful for destroying the bacteria of a stinky dishwashing sponge however making it usable again.)

Anyway. I have sprouted four cantaloupes at the same time, all coming from the same fruit, so their genetic material is similar —they have been for about a month in the same place— and will water them with four types of water. The first one will be microwaved water up to the point of boiling; the second will be heated water in a pan, that is, within the infrared section of the electromagnetic spectrum, as well to the point of ebullition; the third will be water consecrated by myself using my own prana through a basic process and the fourth one will be regular water. So, let’s see how it goes. It is possible by the way that this will produce absolutely nothing so don’t keep your expectations high, but this is one of the benefits of mad science, we can afford to do it messily and we don’t have to twist things to be right in order to receive grant money. A hypothesis being wrong is as valuable in Science as it is a hypothesis being right, the point is to explore.

Here is a picture of our brave specimens in day 1 of the experiment (the flowering cantaloupe from behind is not part of this):

And here are detailed views of each of them:

Plant 1:
Water: Microwaved
Health: Green and alive
Flowers: None

Plant 2:
Water: Consecrated
Health: Green and alive
Flowers: None

Plant 3:
Water: Boiled in a pan
Health: Green and alive
Flowers: None but with some buds

Plant 4:
Water: Regular
Health: Green and alive
Flowers: None but with some buds

And here is a picture of my assistant cat, whispering an incantation for the success of the experiment:

Update: Thank you everyone that showed up for the first entry of Tarot Tuesday! As far as I can tell, it was a success, I received 4 more queries than I expected to receive, that is I was expecting no one to come in the reading room. I learned much from reading your cards and I am grateful for putting your trust on what amounts more or less to a complete stranger. The results of the lessons I learned and guidance on how to approach a reading will be made into an essay before next Tarot Tuesday, the last week of the every month starting on Tuesdays. If anyone is interested on that, stay tuned!

This Tarot Tuesday is no longer accepting new questions, if you have a situation in which you would like to know what the Astral Light is up to bring it by the end of the month. Until then!

So, if you have a situation where you want to know what the Astral Light is up to, be it personal, general or on a broader scale, or want to know what the week or month ahead has in store for you, why then, you know what to do. I would encourage you to post it publicly below, as for others to get an idea of what I have to offer, to encourage discussion and what divination is about in general but if your situation is delicate post a comment marked NOT FOR POSTING explaining your situation and I'll consider it on a case by case basis.

That said, divination is like weather forecasting not a tablet of truth handed down from above, so take the advice I give you through the cards as such. Any unfortunate situation you get yourself into is entirely the responsibility of the querent!

If you wish to make a donation for the readings, though it is not required, you can do so through Paypal by clicking the pentacle.

tree and lightpost

It has not been long since I started my path on the Druid Mysteries according to John Michael Greer's the Celtic Golden Dawn, just about a month today but something very druidical has happened to me and that is an increased awareness of trees. On my first day of doing the Lesser Invoking Ritual of the Pentagram (for those not familiar with western ceremonial magic the LIRP is in simple terms a meditation involving the visualization and calling of the five elements of the ancients, one for each vertex of a five pointed star --Earth, Water, Air, Fire and Spirit) I went outside, it was dawn already as I didn't sleep out of the increased energy it brings into your system --mixed with the excitement of beginning something I have been waiting for years now-- and I saw a tree across the street just glowing with an ethereal aura. As it turns out, or so I suspect, that is exactly what I was seeing in that lightly drizzled morning, the etheric body of the tree. I don't know if it was just the light drizzle in the morning hours or the effect of the practices, or both, that allowed me to see it but it was an experience I had not had before. The experience of The Life in things, sorry, old habit, the experience of The Life in beings, living beings as of course trees are and rocks too!

Armed with this new view about glowing trees, pulsating rocks and a galaxy that moves like clockwork I couldn't hope but to feel broken hearted when I saw an electric utility post and realizing it takes a full tree to create one of those. Strapped with artificial energy running through it in the matter of a comatose, soulless body with a mechanical respirator pumping its lungs to make his relatives (and the hospital's financial department) feel that we don't have to let go of the idea that the person bedridden is probably no longer there and it is only the shell that remains, but rather it is the even more ironic idea that we are using the beings that quite literally help us stay alive to keep alive our delusions. You don’t get the almost mystical sound of leaves brushing against each other out of that, all you get is that well known sound of high power being pumped through metal. Bzzzzzz. What came instantly to mind was Michael Moore's recent documentary The Planet of the Humans . In that documentary, which was banned (also known as censorship) for a few days from YouTube because it spreads “misinformation” and is “dangerous” (to the status quo of course) he starts explaining how in our attempt to keep satiating our addiction to energy we’ve turned from using that once abundant resource that took millions of years to create that powers the unsustainable and plunging plane our civilization is flying on, to start liquefying and pumping anything else we can lay our hands on: from oil, to using trees (the marketing departments call it biomass) to using animals. Yes, such experiments have been carried on, how to extract fuel from animal corpses, of course they did not ask the animals if they agreed. The nonsense...

The realization of the aliveness of beings around me not only brought a sense massive respect for whatever The Gods that put it together are --such magnificence!-- but also of gratitude and connectedness with my environment, something that our current industrial civilization makes really, really hard to notice with all the layers of insulation our modern lives are filled with. Have you ever realized that the small patch of ground that bulges out of the concrete on your nearest sidewalk where a tree might be standing, or not, is not actually a small patch of soil but rather it is the soil that is covered by a gigantic sticker of solidified ash in the form of concrete? That is no accident, and I would even say it is unconsciously intentional. If all you see outside is, well, very much dead and dirty as concrete and streets are, you will want to have thick and closed shoes; if the very air that we breathe is filled with poison coming out of rumbling machines, of course we are going to want closed environments with air purifiers, climate control, etc. Because we have slowly but steadily destroyed the very environment that sustains Life in this planet. Our bodies know it very well, after all our bodies are nothing else but soil, water and solar energy transmuted into flesh by the alchemical process of digestion so it is only natural that there is a sense of discomfort when you step outside of your city variety office space to the streets that smell like exhaust. You want to take refuge back in again and create more of these spaces, which if you are about my age in America at least, it is sadly probable that is most of what you know. Whether or not you know it is not relevant but you sense it, if you put enough attention and it really is not that much, you will feel that your body doesn’t like it.

The problem with that is that the only ones that can afford to create an artificial —and rather ugly and energy inefficient— model of what Nature already does are the same people that are actively destroying it for a profit and having everyone else to live in the barren world they are forced to destroy themselves because its their corporate masters imposed lifestyles that require to do so while they laugh it out looking down at everyone from their closed, and seriously ugly, environment-castles we now call corporate towers and elite apartment buildings. The whole thing is set backwards, you see. Instead of taking care of our environment, the one that you and me are very much a part of, we have decided as a civilization to destroy it and replace the functions it has in our lives —in the same way that John Michael Greer points out that we have done so with our own capacities— by lifeless equivalents that break often and take a lot of power to run. We now have surrogated the task of keeping us alive to the machine, as if surrogating everything else wasn’t enough, which the phenomenon of solutionism demonstrates quite well (that is, in part, the belief that every human problem has a technological solution and if I may add to it, that technology can and must be applied to problems that do not exist at the expense of using our own capacities and or skills like our own hands, our memory and lately it seems, our thinking brains) as Pink Floyd says in their song Welcome to the Machine, if I may repurpose a few lines:

Welcome my son
Welcome to the machine
What did you dream?
It's alright we told you what to dream

No surprise people are now (are they still?) thinking their bodies can be frozen so that they can be microwaved into life at a later time. I really wonder if any of such people, if they have actually done so, had enough awareness in themselves to see on those last moments as they exhaled one last time when the fridge door closed before them and as their souls left the bodies that their attempt to hold on to life was as successful as our attempts to nurture the life within our bodies with frozen food.

This behavior is starting to sound a lot more like tribute to a hungry god that is never satisfied rather than using technology to solve real problems. And it never will be, because such a god doesn’t exist, it’s sole role in the minds and hearts of the desperate human beings that venerate it is to fill the role the Nature once did, but because Nature is now so hard to get in contact with, and the spirituality of the West has been tainted by delusions of power and repression of desires that it got channeled into the closest thing it could find, it’s badly camouflaged impostor, the surrogate Cyber-Nature.

That poses a real problem because if human beings put their trust of survival and well being into such a simulacrum and then it starts to become more obvious that it is not what you thought it was but rather it is using the real thing to feed itself, you feel cheated, and that is a strong emotion that can spread very fast. As fast as the gossip of you cheating your loving girlfriend spreads to the whole set of women in your town and nobody wants to deal with you anymore. That is to say, ironically, it takes the press of a button. It is the thing PR and marketing departments (and cheating boyfriends) have nightmares about, an idea or impression being put into the minds of the collective that trashes your image forever for practical purposes. With no surprise honestly, because what you really fear most is getting a big, oozing spoon of the medicine you’ve been giving everyone else.

These ideas are nothing new if you are a regular reader of JMG and that is what I find most disturbing, these ideas are not new at all, yet they have only survived in the fringes of society. When I first came to John's work I couldn't help but wonder. Why is this guy in the fringes? His work is genius! Way better than the stuff that I see coming out from the so called intellectuals these days. Of course it took me a bit to realize that well, that is at least a less harsh treatment than what occultists used to get back when being burned at the stake was still in fashion. Nevertheless, I can't avoid but to think, if brilliant men and woman are fleeing the formal academia to endeavor on their own; if people like me, thirsty for the real stuff could not find it where it is supposed to be, and I suspect it will happen also with other spheres of human pursuits, well the whole thing will collapse and melt like a bad fruit in the fridge does once you turn the power off and has been in there for a few months. As people, real people not the plastic variety kind, not marketing, not even the achievements or dreams of past are the pulsating life force within all of these pursuits. Once such a process finishes its transition they are all doomed to the ground once its sustaining force is elsewhere. I really wonder though how long will this last, you cannot put the whole planet into a spell and hope it remains that way forever, the spell will be broken, not long from now "when the stars are right" as the novel puts it, and the situations are such. If the efforts of hundreds of people to raise human consciousness through the decades bare fruit at the right time and I think such a thing could happen very soon now that the whole planet has been given a time to breathe, well, prepare yourself for a lot of splashed and rotting fruit.

A tree for a post to me right now feels like the most idiotic thing we can do as a civilization, not because I consider that using natural resources is bad, but because what we need right now is more trees, not less; what we need right now is not more technology but less technology, as well as less of the energy that powers it. There is a very sensible way of utilizing the resources that our planet provides and our ancestors knew it very well, because they were not insulated from their own realities. You have to do it with respect and gratitude, not only because it is incredibly generous but because if you don't, you will pay the consequences of trashing your own life which is everywhere around you, in this life or the next.

That is the problem we are in, the population of this planet has been convinced that Nature is not something you are respectful and grateful for, it is something you are afraid of, something that you exploit and only serves you as a resource, that it is something “out there” in the distant and foreign lands instead of right here, right now and this is achieved by keeping everyone busy, distracted, scared and anxious with the requirements to just keeping ourselves alive today. To me this makes the most important task that we have today as human beings to raise the human consciousness out of the gutter that we have put it in, to break the spell of progress that everyone has been cursed with and once that falls off, maybe we can provide everyone willing enough to experience the life that is pulsating every moment around us. Because we don't need to tell people what to do, we need to show them light so they can see. Can you imagine? Glowing trees for everyone.
