Today I would like to share a poem which I've translated from an illustrated book sponsored by the Morelos Intitute of Culture from my hometown, that among other things talks about the magicians and shapeshifters of the Mesoamerican cultures The Nahual

Any man who wants to transform into a beast will have to maintain intact the spirit, the eyes, the shadow.

The obscure capacity to enter into another world that permutates the corporeal, has to be initiated as we end: in ashes.

The human that desires to become a nahual must have petty desires an be anxious to traverse the paths of the magical.

The nahual, when he is human, can be recognized for his quiet temper, his ebony and glittering eyes, his enjoyment to be confined and his erudition in rites, beings and remedies that heal beyond the body.

His territories comprehend all of our lands and all of our darkest nights.
