I've seen some people use some sort of HTML tag or other setting to make their posts that are longer than a few paragraphs be hidden under a "Read More..." link when using Dw in the Reading page. I looked it up and I tried but I guess it only shows up for other people on their Reading pages so I thought I'd ask. How do you it? I honestly think that should be the default as some people seem to write longer pieces, which is great.

It's not a HTML tag, but rather a feature of Dreamwidth, called a "Cut."

When you create a post, if you are in Rich Text mode, there's a button in the middle of the editor (it's two to the right of the little CD icon, and if you hold your mouse over it, it says "Cut"). You can click that button to insert a cut.

If you're in HTML mode, you can insert a fake HTML tag that looks like this to do it: <cut text="Read more...">Enter your cut contents here.</cut> (You can omit the "text" attribute and it'll simply say "Read more...")

I believe Dreamwidth only shows these if you're on a Reading page or something like that. If you're on the post's page itself, it'll be automatically opened.

Hope that helps!

In fact, I just checked and it looks like the Read more... link you added to this post is working perfectly.

Whelp, [personal profile] sdi beat me to it, but in case it's helpful, here's Dreamwidth's own documentation on the feature: https://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faqbrowse?faqid=88
